Sticky red sphere traps
Sticky red spheres have been used to estimate adult maggot abundance in some commercial orchards and
have also been successfully employed as a control for these pests in small orchards or backyards. Traps
are available in gardening stores or in gardening catalogs.
You can make your own traps using a red wooden or plastic ball similar in size to an apple. Attach a
wire and treat the trap with a sticky substance such as Tangle-trap. Traps can be hung with apple essence
dispensers. Six to ten balls per tree hung on the outside of trees will help provide control. |
