How to Manage Pests
Pests in Gardens and Landscapes
Family Magnoliaceae (Magnolia family)
Magnolia spp. are deciduous and evergreen
trees and shrubs. Their size varies by species. They are
known for lovely spring blossoms.
Optimum conditions for growth
The climatic zone for Magnolias varies by
species. Trees do well in areas of full sun but in hot summer
areas may prefer partial shade. They require deep and thorough
watering. Most magnolias are not tolerant of drought conditions
and do best in rich, well-drained soils. Prune as little
as possible and if required, prune just after flowering.
Avoid gardening under plants because of sensitive surface
roots. Do not transplant after plants are established.
