Pests in Gardens and Landscapes

Poor pollination

Kernels may be shriveled or not completely developed on poorly pollinated plants.

Solutions

Poor pollination may be caused by a failure to plant at the correct time or failure to plant enough corn at one time. If possible, plant at least three or four rows, rather than one long row, each time planting is made. Water and fertilize as directed. Grow varieties adapted to your area. Corn can be hand pollinated by shaking the tassels onto the silks.
