Patterns and locations of the problem


The pattern and the location of the damage in your lawn can often indicate the source of the problem.

Uniform spots that suddenly occur in one area of the lawn most often indicate that an abiotic disorder is causing the problem. Symptoms that gradually expand are more typical of a disease or insect problem. Symptoms that show up soon after mowing, fertilizing, or an application of a pesticide may suggest that these practices were not performed correctly.

Locations where problems commonly occur
Dry areas caused by broken sprinkler head
Around sprinkler heads		 Dog urine injury
Where dogs are active

Stripes caused by uneven fertilizer application
Where fertilizers were applied
Damage from shade
In shade		 Compaction
In areas of high traffic
Damage from mowing on uneven surface
Along mowing paths, low-lying areas, on slopes, or uneven areas		 Item damage
Under items left on the ground
